Consortium for the Teaching of Indonesian & Malay (COTIM) and Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) jointly announce:

ADVANCED INDONESIAN ABROAD
For Teachers, Students, Educational Administrators, and Independent Scholars
June 16 – August 16, 2008

* Nine week intensive language program
* Eight weeks of intensive language instruction in small groups, five days a week and one week of individual field study
* Placement in host families
* Fellowship support is available to qualified applicants

The host institution, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana in Salatiga, Central Java, surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Application Deadline
Applications for priority consideration are due February 11, 2008. Letters of recommendation should be received by February 25, 2008. Applications after the above deadlines will be considered if fellowship support is still available. Contact COTIM president before applying if you apply past the deadline.

The Consortium for the Teaching of Indoesian & Malay (COTIM) includes those universities which provide regular instruction in Indonesian: Arizona State University; Cornell University; Northern Illinois University; Ohio University; University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Hawaii; University of Michigan; University of Washington; University of Wisconsin- Madison; Yale University, and University of Colorado at Boulder.

Fees, Tuition, Fellowships
Tuition for the program is $750, and program fees are $1450. Participants are responsible for their own transportation, health insurance (required), books and living expenses.

Eligibility for Fellowship Support
Graduate students, undergraduates of junior or senior standing Junior by June 30, 2008, or senior as of April 2008, faculty members, teachers in elementary and secondary schools, and educational administrators are eligible for Fullbright-Hayes fellowship support, which provides a substantial per diem allowance. Eligibility for independent scholars must be approved by the Department of Education on a case-by-case basis. All applicants should have achieved by May 2008 at least an intermediate level of proficiency in Malay or Indonesian, equivalent to the proficiency expected at the end of a fourth-semester course.
